NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A dozen Tennessee National Guard members are returning from Afghanistan after nearly a year of deployment.

The soldiers have been functioning as an Operational Mentor Liaison Team and are from various places across Tennessee, according to a news release. Guard spokesman Nate Crawford said Thursday the team worked with Bulgarian soldiers in a partnership to help train Afghanistan's army.

The 12 guard members are expected to arrive on two commercial flights Thursday evening at Nashville International Airport.
