RED BANK, HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB) – Firefighters were able to save a Red Bank home, but were severely impaired by the debris in the home.

Firefighters were called to the duplex at 4805 Alpine Drive around 8:00 p.m. when the resident reported heavy smoke and flames.

When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were already visible from the lower level of the duplex. 

Unfortunately, firefighters were only able to access 3-5 feet inside the house due to severe debris inside the home. Red Bank Fire Department requested a Mutual Aid response for additional manpower.

Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Walden's Ridge Emergency Services, Soddy Daisy Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with red Bank Fire Department. Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue was on the scene as well for rehab.

The McSpaddens, who occupy the downstairs of the duplex, said they heard a sizzling sound coming from the living room/kitchen area. They found smoke coming from a floor receptacle.

Mr. McSpadden tried to look for a fire extinguisher but the smoke and fire grew heavier inside the home which made them evacuate the home. No injuries were reported but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries.

The McSpaddens had three cats but did not survive the fire. Ms. Jaynell Sanland, owner of the home and occupied the upstairs duplex, was not home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Red Bank Fire Department. Damages are estimated at $120,000.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the McSpadden family.
