Trio of local teams advance at state soccer tourney

Notre Dame 2, Madison 0 (Final/OT)
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --
For the third time this postseason, Notre Dame found itself in a scoreless tie at the end of regulation.

But in the opening game of the state tournament, the Lady Irish offense finally came alive in extra time.

Blair Barker and Sophie Mullin each scored in overtime to lead Notre Dame to a 2-0 win over Madison in the Class A/AA state quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon at Chattanooga Christian School.

In the last two weeks, the Lady Irish won a scoreless tie on penalty kicks against Signal Mountain in the district title match, but also lost a similar scenario to CCS in the regional final.

It didn't get that far this time, as Barker cleaned up a loose ball off a corner kick just minutes into the first overtime session for a 1-0 lead. Mullin's clincher came on a breakaway midway through the second 10-minute OT.

The defending champion Lady Irish advance to face CPA in Thursday's state semifinal. CPA beat Gatlinburg-Pittman 4-2 in another quarterfinal on Wednesday.

CCS 9, Chester County 0
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --
Chattanooga Christian made Chester County's first-ever trip to the state tournament a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons.

The Lady Chargers erupted for six second-half goals to turn a comfortable lead into a blowout in a 9-0 win in the Class A/AA state quarterfinals Wednesday night on their home field. CCS advances to face CAK in Thursday's semifinals. CAK beat Hume-Fogg 3-1 in another quarterfinal Wednesday.

CCS took 21 shots to Chester County's one, and got two goals apiece from Hannah Henry and Natalie Thedford. Anna Hoffman, Allie Vannoy, Savannah Cingilli, Sarah Farlett and Kruesi Brock had one score apiece.

Soddy-Daisy 2, Collierville 0 (Final/Overtime)
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) --
It took awhile, but Soddy-Daisy finally earned its first-ever state tournament victory with a 2-0 overtime win over Collierville in the Class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday night at Baylor.

After going scoreless through 80 minutes of regulation, the Lady Trojans needed only eight more minutes to score twice in the first extra period. Miranda Smith got Soddy-Daisy on the board with a goal in the 86th minute, and Summer Lanter followed with the clincher just two minutes later.

The Lady Trojans offense was stifled by offsides calls and missed opportunities throughout, but keeper Haley Myers and a strong back unit fought off every 24 Collierville shots. Myers posted the shutout with 12 saves between the posts.

Soddy-Daisy, who entered the night 0-4 all-time in state tournament play, advances to face unbeaten Franklin in Thursday night's semifinals. Franklin beat Bearden 2-0 in another AAA quarterfinal on Wednesday.
