WASHINGTON (AP) - Senators have come out with a bipartisan plan to help keep the financially ailing Postal Service solvent.

The plan would keep six-day mail delivery for at least two more years. It also would encourage cuts in post office staffing and refund postal overpayments to the federal retirement system.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, says the proposal would pull the Postal Service "back from the brink of bankruptcy."
