TN election officials to hold voter outreach program

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB)-- Election officials across the Volunteer State will hold town hall meetings next week to inform voters of a few changes they'll see when they head to the polls.

A new state law, requiring voters to show valid photo identification before casting their ballot will take effect January 1, and officials are looking to answer any questions they might have.

The meetings and open forums will be held across all 95 counties on November 1. Election officials believe this is the first time in Tennessee's history an outreach program will be held by all counties on the same day.

"To my knowledge, nothing like this has ever been done before," Secretary of State Tre Hargett says. "This outreach campaign is massive and certain to reach a tremendous number of voters."

Hamilton County's is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Election Commission at 700 River Terminal Road.
