CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - One area hit very hard by the April tornadoes: North Alabama. Four tornadoes trekked through Dekalb County, alone. 34 people died.
After the storm, many were living under tarps on their property to protect what little they had left from looters. The mayor of Ider called his town a "total disaster." An EF5 tornado made its way through Ider, knocking houses completely off foundations.
Three tornadoes ravaged Jackson County as well. This map shows the areas the long term recovery team in the two counties has helped so far. The areas dotted in pink are complete rebuilds.
Recovery teams in North Alabama are still providing storm victims with basic essentials. A huge need right now is food.
Ider Baptist Church plans to provide Thanksgiving dinner to 100 families.
