Amber Alert suspect charged with molestation

Posted: Updated:

DALTON, WHITFIELD COUNTY (WRCB)-- Stunning new details Saturday in an Amber Alert that ended in Dalton Friday evening.

Allen Harness was on the run from Overton County, Tennessee until anonymous tip led to his arrest at the Motel 6 on Chattanooga Road.

A TBI spokesperson says he abducted his step-daughter Thursday, after assaulting her mother with a knife.

Harness was ordered to stay away from the girl after a neglect arrest earlier this year.

Police say the conditions of the home were unfit to live in.

Channel 3 has learned that in addition to charging him as a fugitive from justice, Dalton police have charged Harness with aggravated child molestation and statutory rape.

Police have not said whether or not those charges were filed in connection with Friday's incident.

Harness is still behind bars in Whitfield County awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

Stay with for updates to this developing story.
