REPORT: Deputy had relationship with teen girls
LAFAYETTE, WALKER COUNTY, GA (WRCB) - Additional details have been released in the sudden resignation of a Walker County Deputy.
Deputy Gaylon Redwine resigned in lieu of termination after an internal investigation revealed he had engaged in inappropriate conduct that violated department policy.
The Walker County Sheriff's Office says an investigation found Redwine kissed a 15-year-old girl in April of last year.
According to the internal investigation report, a few months later Redwine had sexual relations with the same girl. She was 16-years-old at the time.
The Sheriff's Office says a third incident occurred in July 2011. Redwine allegedly kissed a 14-year-old girl in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Panama City Beach Police will not prosecute Redwine for the incident that allegedly occurred in their jurisdiction.
According to the Walker County Sheriff's Office, "The acts of misconduct in Walker County have been presented to the District Attorney's Office. Their findings are:
a )The age of consent in the State of Georgia is sixteen years for sexual relations. Therefore, since the acts were consensual, Mr. Redwine cannot be prosecuted for sexual acts with the sixteen year old.
b) Regarding the kissing of the fifteen year old, although morally questionable, it would not by itself be conduct which could be prosecuted.
The Panama City Beach Police Department has declined to prosecute Redwine with regard to the act of kissing a fourteen year old.
" Redwine was found to have violated departmental policy and procedure, although the incidents did not occur while he was on duty.
