SALE CREEK, Tenn. (WRCB) -- On Tuesday, Sale Creek won its first region volleyball championship since 1963.
On Thursday, the Lady Panthers took their historic season one step further.
Sale Creek swept visiting Watertown 3-0 in a Class A sub-state match to secure the school's first-ever trip to the TSSAA State Volleyball Championships next week.
The Lady Panthers fell behind 11-1 in the opening game, but somehow rallied for a 25-23 win in front of a raucous crowd. With confidence in hand, they cruised to 25-18 and 25-13 routs in the final two games to clinch a ticket to Murfreesboro.
Erin Hill led Sale Creek with 23 kills and 16 assists. Megan Storey followed with 20 kills for the winners.
East Hamilton will join the Lady Panthers as first-time state tournament participants. The Hurricanes, who are only in their third year of competition, beat Notre Dame 3-1 in a Class AA sub-state match to advance to Murfreesboro.
Soddy-Daisy hit the 50-win mark for the season and advanced to the AAA state tournament with a 3-1 win over Riverdale. Red Bank is also heading back to Murfreesboro for a fourth straight year after a 3-2 win over defending state champ Signal Mountain in Class AA.
