Franklin opening up Vandy QB competition ahead of UGA game

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt coach James Franklin will be looking at Larry Smith and Jordan Rodgers before deciding which quarterback starts Saturday night against Georgia.

The depth chart listed Smith or Rodgers at quarterback Monday for the first time this season, and Franklin said he doesn't know who his starter is.

Smith hurt his left ankle in the first quarter of last week's 34-0 loss to No. 2 Alabama, and Rodgers replaced him. Thee coach says Rodgers played extremely well in the first half and not as well in the second. Rodgers is a junior college transfer and the younger brother of Aaron Rodgers of the NFL's Green Bay Packers.

Franklin says competition at practice will decide who starts.
