NRC chair to visit TVA's Browns Ferry plant in AL

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - The head of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is visiting the Tennessee Valley Authority's Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in north Alabama.

NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko will tour the plant's unit one reactor, which includes the system that led to a serious safety finding earlier this year. He will also meet with TVA executives and other workers at Browns Ferry on Friday.

The agency says Jaczko will be accompanied by Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander.

The NRC is starting the second part of an intensive inspection required by safety problems at the plant. The agency says things have improved, but more changes are needed.
