KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee junior guard Taber Spani has had surgery on her left elbow to remove scar tissue buildup.

Jenny Moshak, Tennessee associate athletics director for sports medicine, says the left-handed Spani will begin rehabilitation immediately and is expected to return to play in three to four weeks.

The Lee's Summit, Mo., native averaged eight points, 4.1 rebounds and 22.8 minutes per game last season. She started 26 times while playing in all 37 games as a sophomore.

The Lady Volunteers begin practicing for the 2011-12 season on Wednesday and host their first exhibition game on Nov. 1 against Carson-Newman. The season opener is Nov. 13 against Pepperdine.
