Hodge, Black add to Classic's local flavor

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WRCB) -- The Children's Hospital Classic picked up a little more local flavor Monday.

Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Jonathan Hodge and Chattanooga's Andrew Black both played their way into spots in this week's Nationwide Tour field through a qualifying event at Cleveland Golf and Country Club.

Seven golfers earned entry to this week's event at Black Creek Club through the Cleveland qualifier, with Hodge and Black each finishing tied for fourth at 3-under 68.

Former UTC standout and Ooltewah native Bryce Ledford shot a 4-under 68 at a separate qualifier at Bear Trace in Harrison Bay, but lost in a playoff.

Hodge and Black join a growing contingent of players with local ties in this week's event, which was formerly named the Chattanooga Classic.

Former Baylor School stars Harris English and Luke List are both card-carrying members of the Nationwide Tour. List is currently in the top 30 on the money list, while English finished runner-up in his second career start as a Nationwide pro last week in Midland, Texas.

Honors Course head profressional Henrik Simonsen and assistant pro Bruce Bowen also earned spots in the field at last week's Tennessee Section PGA member qualifier at Black Creek.
