English runner-up in 2nd Nationwide start as a pro

MIDLAND, Texas (AP/WRCB) - The expectations just got a little bit higher for Harris English this week.

The former Baylor School and University of Georgia star finished runner-up at the WNB Golf Classic on Sunday, losing to New Zealand's Danny Lee on the first playoff hole.

It was just English's second career Nationwide event as a pro. He made his tour debut as a pay-for-play participant the previous week's Soboba Golf Classic, finishing 49th.

This week he'll return to his home high school course of Black Creek Club in Lookout Valley for the Children's Hospital Classic.

English closed with a final round of 3-under 69 and tied Lee at 18-under 270 through 72 holes at Midland Country Club.

"I didn't hit my tee shot where I wanted to in the playoff. I tried to get a good angle at the flag but kind of got a bad break but that's what happens," English told PGATour.com. "I gave myself a chance for par and that's all I could get. I started off a little slow today with a bogey at No. 1 but the eagle at No. 12 really got me going and got me back in it and I kind of cruised in from there. Overall, it was a good day. I was just glad I was in it."

English moves up to 79th on the 2011 tour money list after earning $56,700 for his second-place finish. The top 25 players on the money list after the Tour Championship later this month will earn a PGA Tour card for 2012.

English already owns one Nationwide Tour victory. He won the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational in July as an amateur.
