Storm Alert Team: Slight possibility of snow in highest elevations

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Snow. Yes, really. We haven't even set out the Halloweendecorations yet and snow is already in the forecast.

The Storm Alert 3 team is looking at the slight possibility of the whitestuff in the highest elevation over the weekend.

Meteorologist Nick Austin says the Microcast is still predicting a slightpossibility of flurries in the Cherokee County, North Carolina area.

But if you're looking for the early season snow, get ready for a climb.

Austin says the only chance of snowfall will be in elevations above 3,000feet, among the highest peaks in the Channel 3 viewing area.

He says the best chance for snowfall will be in the pre-dawn hours on Saturday, before the temperatures begin to rise.

Areas with higher elevations, like the mountains near Gatlinburg and Asheville could see an even more significant flurries.

Forecasts in the Valley call for lows in the 40s on Saturday morning as acold front pushes into the area.

Some showers and storms may redevelop today as a cold front passes through the Tennessee Valley. But don't worry too much, they aren't expected to be widespread or become severe.

Several things are coming together to increase our chances for some severe weather later today.  A warm, humid air mass will interact with unseasonably cool air that will be pushing through today and tomorrow.
