Cleveland woman "lucky to be alive" following flood rescue

Posted: Updated:

BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB)— A Cleveland woman is in stable condition Friday, after flood waters nearly claimed her life.

Bradley County EMS Spokesman Stan Clark says 34-year-old Brittany Hicks was driving in the area of Harrison Pike and Westside Drive Thursday night when her car stalled in deep water.

Clark says the rushing water swept the woman away as she sought higher ground, carrying her 200 to 300 yards down a flooded ditch.

At one point Clark says the woman was pinned under a bridge, but eventually broke free and latched onto brush.

When rescue crews arrived, expecting the worse, one of them heard Hicks screaming and found her near an area gym.

She was taken to Sky Ridge Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

Clark says she's in good spirits and "very lucky to be alive".
