Fall begins Friday; Cool, wet end to Summer

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Fall begins Friday morning at 5:05!!  For the last day of summer (today) we can expect some cloudiness with a few showers or storms south and east of town.

Otherwise we are looking at a warm and humid day with highs getting into the mid-80s.

Friday will be somewhat fall-like with highs dropping into the mid to upper 70s as drier air also begins to move in.

The season begins with the arrival of the autumnal equinox and signals equal hours of daylight and darkness.

The sun will be positioned over the Earth's equator at 5:05 a.m. EDT Friday.

While fall begins in the Northern Hemisphere, the event begins the spring season in southern latitudes.

That will set the stage for great weather this weekend with highs in the upper 70s and lots of sunshine and low humidity.

I have had a few phone calls asking when we set the clocks forward.  That does not coincide with the first day of fall, but it does happen at the beginning of the season…in this case, November 6th (Sunday) at 3:00 a.m.
