ATLANTA (AP) - New FBI statistics show that violent crime and killings are down in Georgia, mirroring a national trend.
Nationwide, the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports released this week show that violent crime dropped 6% in 2010, marking the fourth straight year-to-year decline.
In Georgia, there were 39,072 violent crimes in 2010 compared to 42,073 the previous year, which represents a 7% decline.
There were 558 murders and nonnegligent manslaughters in Georgia in 2010, compared with 566 the previous year.
Property crime was also down nationally for the eighth straight year, falling 2.7%, the FBI said, referring to crimes reported to authorities.
Property crime in Georgia fell 2.3%.
