Lookout Mountain expects Sunday sales vote

Posted: Updated:

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) - People in Lookout Mountain could soon get a chance to vote on whether they want Sunday alcohol sales.

City Clerk Cindy Roberts tells the Chattanooga Times Free-Press (http://bit.ly/pDIEnH ) that officials have turned in the necessary paperwork to get the issue on the November ballot. The Georgia Food Industry Association says 97 other communities have already taken that step.

Mapco Mart manager Rory Cantrell says alcohol sales make up roughly 8 to 12% of his sales during the week, and about 20% on Sunday. Since the city is so close to the Tennessee border, residents can cross the state line to buy alcohol when they cannot purchase it in Georgia. Cantrell says he wants the measure to pass.
