ATHENS, McMINN COUNTY (WRCB) – Deputies in McMinn County have arrested two after an active meth lab and what they believe is stolen property was found at a home.

Sheriff Joe Guy says an investigation into a stolen gun case took detectives to the home of 52-year-old Ricky Thurman, 159 County Road 100, on Wednesday.

The detectives discovered an active meth lab at the home. After a search of the home, deputies found meth making materials, assorted prescription drugs, at least one marijuana plant, cash and property that matches items stolen in several area burglaries.

"The detectives did a great job following up on some information which led to this," said Sheriff Guy. "It is a large assortment of property, including fishing rods, tools, CD's, purses and various other items. We hope to have the items identified soon, and will hopefully be able to return as much of it as possible to the rightful owners. The investigation is continuing."

Ricky Thurman and his wife Gail Thurman, 50, were both arrested and charged with manufacturing/possession of controlled substance for resale schedule vi, possession of controlled substances (assorted prescription drugs/ecstasy), possession of drug paraphernalia, and intent to and manufacturing of meth.

Ricky Thurman was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a felon. Both were taken to the McMinn County Justice Center facing arraignment Friday in General Sessions Court.
