Ask the Pros: Crappie jig colors and weights?

Posted: Updated:

Question:
What color and weights are best for crappie now?
-Steve

Answer:
Steve my most reliable colors for crappie are combinations of yellows, whites, reds, chartreuse, and sometimes black in very stained water.

Crappie can be very finicky at times and it will pay off to try different color combinations until you find a color that is working the best for that day. I rely on a 1/16 ounce jig head for 90% of my crappie fishing, but sometimes go a light as a  1/32 ounce jig head if the crappie are extremely shallow.
