East Ridge has more cars than employees

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) - An inventory of city vehicles to clean up records at East Ridge City Hall discovered cars and titles missing but the Chattanooga suburb's new city manager said there's no sign of wrongdoing.

As East Ridge city manager since late April, Tim Gobble said he was at first startled by records showing the city owned 149 vehicles. East Ridge has 116 employees.

The city has applied for 11 car titles after at least that many were discovered missing.

Gobble told the Chattanooga Times Free Press the titles "may be somewhere around here, but we've looked everywhere." (http://bit.ly/pqYk2I )

The city hopes to sell at least 25 older vehicles at auction, including some that date to the 1980s. He said some of the vehicles are salvage. City records will now show 113 vehicles.
