ROCKY FACE, Ga. (UTC) -- Senior Stephan Jaeger is the first round leader at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic after opening with a four-under par 68 on Friday. He led the Chattanooga Mocs to a tie for second, just one shot off the lead.
Jaeger's effort included five birdies and 12 pars with just a single blemish with a bogey on the par four 14th. He leads Drew Czuchry of Georgia Tech and Michael Cromie by one stroke and a group of six by two.
Chattanooga shot one-under par as a team with a 287. That ties UTC for second with playing partner Clemson. The pair trails Georgia Tech by one at 286. The Mocs lead fourth-place Georgia by two and Auburn by three in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Tennessee is seventh after round one.
Sophomores Davis Bunn and Benni Weilguni are tied for 14th as each fired even par 72s. They did so in very different manners. Bunn's level par round was very steady with two birdies and 14 bogeys offset by two bogeys. Weilguni had an eagle and four birdies balanced by six bogeys.
Sophomore Chris Robb rounded out the counting scores with a three over 75. Robb's six birdies is tied for the tournament lead. Junior Steven Fox had the drop score with a 76 (+4).
The Mocs start Saturday's second round at 9 a.m., on the first hole. Fox leads UTC off as it will be joined again by Clemson and Wake Forest. Weilguni, Robb, Bunn and Jaeger will follow at 12-minute intervals.
