Lookouts beat Biscuits to take back first place

CHATTANOOGA (Lookouts/WRCB) -- Alex Castellanos, Scott Van Slyke, and Hector Gimenez did most of the heavy lifting with seven hits and seven RBI to lead Chattanooga to an 8-3 win over Montgomery Thursday night at AT&T Field.

The win, coupled with Tennessee's 5-3 loss at Birmingham, gives the Lookouts a full one-game lead in the Southern League's North Division with four games to play. Chattanooga has already clinched a playoff berth, but must finish in first place in the second half in order to host more than just one game in a best-of-five postseason series with the Smokies.

Castellanos put the Lookouts up early with a two-run homer in the first, and Gimenez put it away in a four-run sixth with a key three-run blast.

Stephen Fife (3-0) picked up the win, yielding just three runs on six hits in five innings. He walked four walks and struck out one before turning it over to the bullpen.

The two teams will continue their five-game series at 7:15 p.m. ET Friday. It's the final regular season homestand of the 2011 season before the Lookouts open Southern League postseason play against Tennessee next Wednesday.
