KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WRCB) -- A person familiar with the situation says Tennessee has offered its open athletic director's job to Alabama assistant athletic director Dave Hart.
The person spoke Thursday to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the offer had not been made public, but Alabama released a statement to the media late Thursday confirming the two sides have discussed the position.
"Mr. Hart has had conversations with officials at the University of Tennessee," Alabama said in the brief statement. "However, no decisions have been made, and no timeframe exists for making a decision."
Hart is the father of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga athletic director Rick Hart.
Tennessee has been looking for a new athletic director since Mike Hamilton resigned in June in the wake of a lengthy NCAA investigation.
Hart did not immediately return a telephone message left by the AP. He has been executive director of athletics assisting Alabama athletic director Mal Moore since August 2008. He also has advised the Atlantic Coast Conference and was athletic director at Florida State for 13 years.
An Alabama graduate, Hart played basketball for C.M. Newton.
