16-year-old girl shot in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Police are investigating an overnight shooting on in the Emma Wheeler Homes community.

Officers say a 16-year-old girl was shot in the thigh while standing with a group of friends near 4100 Angela Drive around 9:30 p.m.

According to witnesses, an unknown man wearing white shirt, blue jean shorts and a black bandana over his face approached the girls from Jeffery Lane and fired into the crowd.

After shooting the girl, the suspect fled the scene in a silver Honda Accord which was waiting near Woodlandview Circle.

The teen was taken to the hospital where she is expected to be treated and released.

Emma Wheeler Homes is a low income housing community run by the Chattanooga Housing Authority in South Chattanooga.
