Hawthorne and Justice Appear in Court

CHATTANOOGA, TN. (WRCB) -- Friends and family of the victims in an east Chattanooga double shooting in late July packed the Hamilton County Courthouse Tuesday as the men suspected in the shooting death of James William Jr., 23, appeared before Judge Bob Moon for their preliminary hearing.

Deangelo Justice and Jericho "Re Re" Hawthorne are suspected of robbing an east Chattanooga home at gunpoint and fatally shooting Williams. However, one of their victims, Yetta Harris, and her children lived to tell what happened.

Before Harris took the stand, her son testified he was confronted by two gunman as he walked home, just a few minutes before his mom and her boyfriend. He told the court Justice had stayed in the back of the home to watch him and his 7-year-old brother while Hawthorne remained in the front of the house. Harris and Williams returned a few moments later.

"When I got into the house, Jericho was standing behind the door with a gun up to my face and he told me to shut up and get down on the floor," said Harris.

Harris testified Williams walked in after her and was confronted by Hawthorne, who demanded money but before Williams could respond, he opened fire. " As he was shooting him, I heard James say Re Re, Jericho, why you doing this," Harris said.

Harris was also shot multiple times during the armed robbery. Justice remains behind bars without bond. Hawthorne's bond total was increased to more than $1.5 million. Hawthorne's girlfriend is charged with accessory after the fact. Her case was also bound over to the grand jury.
