CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – The family of the 14-year-old boy shot in the mouth Sunday say he's doing better, but remains in intensive care.

Family members say 14-year-old Malik Phillips was shot in the mouth near East Lake Courts on 4th Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police continue to search for a suspect in the shooting, but say they have very few leads.

Phillips is a ninth grade student at Howard High. A member of the boy's family tells Channel 3 Eyewitness News his parents are with him at Erlanger.

Investigators say after he was shot, Phillips ran to a home around the corner at 2237 E. 27th Street, where police and paramedics found him.

Because of the wound to his mouth, Phillips has not been able to speak with investigators.

Police are asking for anyone with information on this incident to contact the Chattanooga Police at 423-698-2525.
