Red Bank officer files race discrimination lawsuit
RED BANK, TN (WRCB) - A Red Bank police officer has filed suit, saying he was discriminated against.
In the suit, filed in Hamilton County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Isaac Cooper says since joining the force in 2003, he has been the only African-American officer.
The 59-year-old claims after leaving the department in 2009, and returning months later, he was denied his prior seniority and reinstated as a patrol officer.
Cooper says he was denied promotions that were instead given to less qualified employees. He claims the discrimination occurred because he met with commissioners prior to the firing of former Chief, Larry Sneed.
Cooper is asking for damages, although the lawsuit does not list specifics.
Red Bank officials could not be reached for comment.
