Crime Stoppers: Casual Attire for Repeat Offender

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WRCB-TV) - "We're looking for a fairly sizable white male," explained Detective Tim Tomisek. And that is what the pictures taken from surveillance video at the Baskin Robbins on Highway 58 showed. He looks to be about 6 feet tall and close to 200 pounds. And officers believe this is just one of his robberies.

Baskin Robbins on August 13th, Gigi's Cupcakes on Gunbarrel Road on the 20th, then the Mr. Zip a few doors away on the 22nd. "It looks like he's hitting places where he can go and there's not a lot of people," Tomisek said. "I think he's sitting and he's scoping it out and waiting until there's no customers inside."

And in each case, this thug strays from the tried-and-true cat burglar costume. According to the detective: "He's decided, 'You know what? That's a cliche. Let's start from scratch here. I'm gonna wear shorts, a T-shirt and pantyhose over my face.'" His wardrobe each time has consisted of a white T-shirt and khaki shorts. He wears tennis shoes and sunglasses under his nylon.

In some cases, he has used a note. In others, the store clerks have seen a wooden handle of something that could be a weapon. "Some people haven't taken him seriously and some people have run away," Tomisek said. "Regardless, he gets his money. One way or the other. Either they give it to him or he takes the entire cash register, cords and all, dragging behind him."

And if not for that arm-load of cash register, he could leave a place, rip off his stocking and blend back into the masses. One thing, though, may give him away. "He has a scar or a mole, very noticeable through the pantyhose," added the detective, "on his left cheek."

If you recognized this week's crook, pick up the phone and call Crime Stoppers at 698-3333. You could earn yourself up to a thousand dollars in cash reward money and as always, no one, not even police will never know it was you who provided the tip.
