UPDATE 2: Victims hit by van identified; driver behind bars
CLEVELAND, BRADLEY COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- Two people are recovering at Erlanger after they were hit by a van at a Cleveland campus.
Cleveland Police Spokesperson Evie West says Danielle Carter and Shashank Shrestha were struck by a van traveling southbound on Parker Street NE around 11:30 Saturday night.
Both victims were flown to Erlanger with serious injuries.
West says the driver, 48-year-old Thomas Creek, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license, and additional charges are pending the on-going investigation.
Officials with Lee University tell Channel 3 that Danielle Carter was "alert and responsive to visitors", and her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. They also say Shashank Shrestha is being held for observation of possible bone injuries.
"I feel fortunate and loved," Shrestha said. "I hope I recover fast."
The driver, Thomas Creek, remains in police custody.
