Vols and Mocs to play in Knoxville on Jan. 2
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WRCB) - Chattanooga men's basketball will ring in the new year against a familiar in-state foe in 2012.
The University of Tennessee released its official 2011-12 schedule Thursday, including a January 2 date with the Mocs in Knoxville. The contest falls two days before UT's trip to cross-state rival Memphis, and five days before its SEC-opener against Florida.
It will be the 33rd meeting between the two schools. The Vols cruised past UTC 82-62 last November to run its all-time record against the Mocs to 27-5 overall.
In all, Tennessee will face at least ten teams from the 2011 NCAA tournament in a daunting slate, including national champion Connecticut.
The Huskies visit Knoxville on Jan. 21 in the middle of the Volunteers' Southeastern Conference lineup, according to the schedule released Thursday.
The Vols face Duke on Nov. 21 in the Maui Invitational in Maui, Hawaii. If they advance, they will play either Michigan, the team that beat them in the NCAA tournament last season, or Memphis. Kansas, UCLA, Georgetown and Chaminade are also competing in the tournament.
Pittsburgh visits Thompson-Boling Arena on Dec. 3, and Tennessee travels to Oakland on Nov. 28, College of Charleston on Dec. 14 and Memphis on Jan. 4.
The Vols' other nonconference foes are Austin Peay, The Citadel, ETSU, Louisiana-Monroe, UNC-Asheville and UNC-Greensboro.
