CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Four former police officers at Erlanger Health System have filed complaints with the state, saying the Chattanooga hospital wouldn't pay them when they worked during lunch periods.

A complaint filed with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development by Jerry Lawrence states Erlanger deducted a 30-minute lunch period, whether officers took the time or not, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Department spokesman Jeff Hentchel said the former officers' claims are under investigation and the state will immediately begin gathering documents from Erlanger.

Responding by e-mail to the newspaper, hospital spokeswoman Pat Charles stated a complaint to Erlanger by one of the former guards is being reviewed. The hospital plans to respond to the state agency after investigating the claim.
