Crime Stoppers: Convenience store robbery

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- A Convenience store's third shift clerk runs into a whole host of late-night characters.

It's also the time of day the criminal element is operational.

"It's a good neighborhood up there and it just got picked again for some reason," says Officer Nathan Hartwig with Chattanooga Police.

Not the first time for a hold up at the Kangaroo express in north Chattanooga, but hopefully someone will recognize the guy.

The store is just across the street from the old location of Greenlife Grocery on Hixson Pike.  It was early July 21st.

"At about 1:30 in the morning, the clerk was outside taking the garbage out when the suspect approached him, had his hands in his sweater acting like he had a gun," says Hartwig.

The thug certainly hadn't consulted the fashion police as that sweater and ski mask were well out of season and that makes this one tough.

He looks to be a broad shouldered white man, about 6-feet tall, maybe 240 pounds.

"If anybody can recognize anything...characteristics about the guy, how he carries himself or the clothing, anything would help," says Hartwig.

The pictures are clear, but the black and white images don't show his sweater was gray, his pants were brown, his ski mask was light green and of course his shirt-tail was hanging out.

The clerk assumed the crook had a gun.  The clerk was not injured, but he had to hand over the store's take for the evening.

Besides thee pictures, officers have little to go on in this case and they need your help.

"You know, you don't have to leave your name, you don't even have to leave your phone number if you don't want to.  You can just call completely anonymously," says Hartwig.

If you have any information, pick up the phone and call Crime Stoppers. The number is 698-3333.

You could make yourself some quick, guilt-free cash, up to a $1,000, and as always, it's a confidential call.
