Forgery suspect arrested in Cherokee County

MURPHY, CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC. (WRCB)—A man is behind bars in Cherokee County on forgery charges.

Sheriff Keith Lovin says 24-year-old Joseph Michael Crist was arrested Wednesday at a residence on Grindstone Lane.

The sheriff says Crist allegedly cashed checks he stole from a family member.

He faces eight counts of forgery. Crist was also charged failure to appear on traffic charges and trespass, communicating threats, and interfering with emergency communications.

He is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail on a $6,500 bond.
