Uggla, Hudson lead Braves to sweep of Marlins

MIAMI (AP) - Dan Uggla extended his hitting streak to 31 games and Tim Hudson pitched into the eighth inning, leading the Atlanta Braves over the Florida Marlins 6-2 Wednesday night for a three-game sweep.

Uggla's two-run single in the first inning tied Rico Carty for the second-longest hitting streak in franchise history. Tommy Holmes hit in 37 straight for the Boston Braves in 1945.

Uggla has the longest hitting streak in the majors this season. The top streak by a second baseman is 35 games, shared by Chase Utley (Phillies, 2006) and Luis Castillo (Marlins, 2002).

Hudson (12-7) took a shutout into the eighth before getting into trouble. He was charged with two earned runs on six hits in 7.1 innings. He struck out seven, walked one, and helped himself at the plate with an RBI-single in the second.

Eric Hinske added a two-run double in a three-run second frame, and David Ross scored on a wild pitch in the third to round out the Braves' scoring.

Flame-throwing youngster Arodys Vizcaino made his major league debut in the ninth, but recorded just two outs before being lifted for Jonny Venters with the bases loaded. Venters struck out Brett Hayes to end the game.

Vizcaino, who was called up Wednesday morning when Atlanta released Scott Proctor, recorded one strikeout but also walked two and hit a batter in two-thirds of an inning.
