FORT PAYNE, DEKALB CO., AL (WRCB) - A domestic dispute overnight in Fort Payne, Alabama leaves one person dead and sends another one to the hospital.
Tuesday night deputies answered a call concerning a suicidal person. On their way to a home on County Road 622, they received a second call of a "man shot". When deputies arrived, the victim and family members said an argument had taken place between James Earl Ray, age 52 and his son, Jonathan David Ray, age 24.
When the elder Ray went outside to call police, the younger Ray followed and shot his dad as he tried to run away. When family members confronted Jonathan, he threatened to shoot himself, then took off.
James Ray was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was treated and released.
Officers began searching the area and located the suspect a short distance from the scene. Jonathan Ray was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
