Collapsed deck up to code at time of construction

EAST RIDGE, TN. (WRCB)--  East Ridge Police say a deck that collapsed over the weekend did meet code at the time it was built.

Two adults and three children were injured Saturday when the deck gave way on Glenn Errol Way.

Monday, police say the nails in the deck loosened over time.

When it was built in the 80s, the nails didn't require lag bolts and deck was grandfathered in when building codes were amended in 2007.

Code enforcement is working with the townhome's owner to ensure all other decks are inspected.
