CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Faulty brakes are being blamed for a CARTA shuttle crashing into a light poll on Market Street in front of the TVA building.

According to Chattanooga Police, the CARTA shuttle struck a light pole and several trees.The shuttle dragged the light pole 100 to 120 feet before coming to a rest.

Police say the driver, Lawrence Wilkerson, executed a turn and lost the brakes on the electric shuttle.

The crash busted the windshield out of the front of the shuttle.

Officials say no passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash. Wilkerson was shaken up and suffered a laceration to the finger.

The shuttle has been towed from the scene.
