CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Hamilton County commissioners have delayed a vote on a new redistricting plan.

The changes come every 10 years.

It's based on population numbers from the Census report.

Wednesday morning, commissioners announced they would take a little more time to consider the plan.

That decision came after residents of District Six raised objections to the proposal.

Lines are redrawn to ensure voting districts have similar populations and equal representation.

Once the Commission determines the district map, the Election Commission will establish voting precincts for the new districts. The Election Commission will then send the new districts to the state to certify they comply with state regulations. After the districts are certified, they must be approved by the state legislature.
