Ultralight crash victim retired from NASA

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An ultralight pilot killed in a crash on his family's property in southern Tennessee has been identified as a retired NASA employee.

Lincoln County Sheriff Murray Blackwelder said 70-year-old Larry Sheaks was killed Tuesday in the crash of his newly acquired ultralight on his family's farm property.

Blackwelder said Sheaks "was one of the people who helped bring Apollo 13 home."

The 1970 moon mission involved an oxygen tank explosion about 200,000 miles from earth and the memorable message, "Houston, we've had a problem here."

Blackwelder said Sheaks had acquired the ultralight about three weeks ago but had been a pilot for decades.

Federal aviation investigators were notified.
