AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Barrett Trotter insists he didn't mind when Auburn tried to toss former North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson into an already tight competition.
Trotter, Clint Moseley and freshman Kiehl Frazier will battle to replace Heisman winner Cam Newton when preseason camp opens Wednesday night for the defending national champions. Wilson wound up signing with Wisconsin, or he would have been the likely frontrunner with none of the others having significant experience.
Trotter says he and Moseley asked offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn about the coaches' efforts to bring in Wilson. But he says it didn't bother him because it would just have been his job to beat him out.
It's just the most high-profile competition among many for a team with three returning starters on each side of the ball.
