Monthly weather review for July

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB)--July, 2011 was hot & dry in Chattanooga and most of the Tennessee Valley. Only five days had highs in the 80s with 90s the rest of the month, and a few days near triple digits. Total rainfall fell a little short of an average July. Long range outlooks for August don't show any relief. Below are some details about July. Data is from the Chattanooga airport and all temperatures are in degrees Fahrenheit:

Total precipitation: 3.87" (0.86" below normal)
Highest single date rainfall: 1.71" on July 14
Highest 24-hr. rainfall: 2.27", July 14-15
Measurable rain (0.01" or more) fell on only 9 of 31 days
