ROME, GA. (AP) - Members of a Dalton-based group want state lawmakers to create a single Congressional district for northwest Georgia.
Ed Painter, co-founder of Northwest Georgia for Northwest Georgians, has proposed taking Floyd, Bartow and Chattooga counties from a district represented by U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey of Marietta and placing them into a district represented by GOP Rep. Tom Graves of Ranger.
Elected boards in Dalton and Elijay and Walker, Whitfield and Murray counties have backed resolutions supporting that idea. Painter is scheduled to speak to the Gordon County Commission on Tuesday.
Gingrey told the Rome News-Tribune he will fight to continue to represent Floyd County.
