Chief Dodd orders weekend crackdown on teens downtown

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Chattanooga Police say they will have an increased presence downtown this weekend.

The CPD is increasing patrols on the North Shore, in Coolidge Park and in Downtown this weekend following reports of large crowds of children and teens congregating in the area.

Police say business owners reported teens blocking storefronts and running into traffic.

Chief Bobby Dodd is hopeful that parents will take more of an initiative in making sure that minor children are well supervised.

"While we encourage a family atmosphere downtown and welcome citizens to get out and enjoy all that Chattanooga has to offer, weekend entertainment and public gatherings aren't meant to create panic and general lawlessness," Chief Dodd said.

Parents are being discouraged from dropping off young juveniles and teens and leaving them unattended.

CPD says city ordinances will be enforced.
