Posted: Updated:

KODAK, Tenn. (AP) - The Alcoa Foundation has granted $15,000 to the organization Friends of the Smokies to support teacher enrichment programs.

The projects include teacher workshops and opportunities for three teachers to spend a summer working as park rangers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Friends of the Smokies will work with National Park Service staff to offer two science and technology workshops for a total of 60 teachers next spring and summer.

Friends of the Smokies is a nonprofit group that works to preserve the park by raising funds and other projects.
