CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)—A couple is behind bars on robbery charges, after surveillance footage catches them in the act.

Police Sergeant Jerri Weary says 48-year-old and John Tibbals and 46-year-old Tina Downs allegedly robbed North Shore Tan on Market Street, Thursday, shortly after 8:30 pm.

A store employee told police Tibbals advised she was being robbed and pulled a knife. Police say Tibbals cut the power cord to the register, causing it to open as he grabbed the employee's phone.

The victim says Downs then grabbed her purse and both exited the store on foot with a grand total of $145.00.

After reviewing surveillance video, the responding officer thought he recognized the suspects and headed over to Somerville Avenue.

During a consensual search of the residence, police found the clothing worn by the suspects in the video, along with the victim's phone and purse.

Both Downs and Tibbals were subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.
