Wrong-way crash suspect identified
EAST RIDGE, TN. (WRCB)—East Ridge Police have identified the man, they say, caused a head-on collision on Interstate 24 Saturday morning.
Police Spokesperson Eric Hopkins says 25-year-old Jesus Morales Bonilla was behind the wheel of the black Dodge Ram traveling in the wrong direction on I-24, which hit a Pontiac head-on.
A third car, following the Pontiac to Florida, couldn't avoid the crash.
Police say Bonilla tried to flee the scene, but was caught by an East Ridge Officer who'd stop to help.
Investigators say the suspect provided two forms of identification with different names on each.
In all, Hopkins says, four adults and two children were taken to local hospitals.
Bonilla is charged with DUI, four counts of vehicular assault, six counts of reckless endangerment, implied consent law, and driving without a license.
His information was turned over to agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
