Anglers help TVA with aquatic mat relocation

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- Local anglers and TVA will meet again Wednesday July 23, 2011 at 5:00 pm to conduct the second step of the "growth barrier" experiment at Chester Frost boat ramp. It will involve moving the mats over to control the area adjacent to where the mats were place originally last month. They will also be manually harvesting and disposing of aquatic weeds in this second step of the experiment.

Last month in an experimental effort to control aquatic vegetation local anglers and TVA placed a weed control blanket around the Chester Frost boat ramp area. These blankets were designed to block the sunlight from the aquatic grass and prevent it from growing. This method has never been used on Chickamauga before.

"If you have been to the Chester Frost boat ramp lately you will notice that this area has remained hydrilla free for the last few weeks and no herbicides were used," says CBA President Justin Medley.
