CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- Here's the recipe from Jeanne Brice who appeared on 3 Plus You today with her assistants Olivia and Sophia. Enjoy!
Homemade Camping Ice Cream
(Materials/Ingredients for each batch serves 3-4
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. half and half cream
2-3 T. sugar
Vanilla extract, fresh crushed peaches, strawberries or bananas, or chocolate syrup
3 T rock salt
2 1/2 c. ice
1 quart size Ziplock bag
2 gallon size Ziplock bags
In a small bag, mix the milk, half and half, sugar and flavor of your choice. Place the small bag into the larger bag. Inside the larger bag, add the ice and rock salt so that it surrounds the smaller bag. Release any air that may be inside the larger bag. Make sure that both bags are sealed securely. Shake or roll for 6 to 10 minutes until ice cream is frozen. We found that it helped to put the larger bag in another gallon size bag, to avoid any leakage.
If you want, you can substitute a small and large coffee can for the plastic bags, and roll or shake for 6-10 minutes.
